Oh, the farmer and the cowman should be friends.
In my quest to hone my craft skills, I’ve tried to do a few new things this tour. I’ve spun with beads. I tried a new whorl on my wheel. Now I’m spinning a new-to-me fiber: Southdown.

Guess what I learned? The Southdown and the Pirate can’t be friends. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the dyer of the fiber, and the colors are great (they remind me of garden fresh heirloom tomatoes in rich reds, yellows and greens). But the fiber itself is coarse. It drafts nicely, but I find it itchy and note it’s probably better for outerwear. A good experience (character building?) but definitely not a fiber of which I need a sweater’s worth.
