I don’t have words to talk about how I feel about what happened yesterday or how every time one of these tragedies happens I am struck by the senselessness of it all.
Tonight we sat in a dark movie theatre and watched The Hobbit, a movie about good and evil. And even though it is just a quote from a movie and a book, what Gandalf (and Tolkien) says really resonated with me.
“I found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk, that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love.”

It’s funny how profound and true tolkeins words still are. There is always evil but there is also always good. Your quote really does still apply years after it was written
